Tomasz Fechner Records Music by Legnani and Carulli
Our GSI team member, Tomasz Fechner, has recently recorded two new videos for the GSI YouTube channel. This time, Tomasz focused on classical and early Romantic period pieces.
In the first video, you can hear Tomasz playing Caprice No. 4 by Italian composer Luigi Legnani. This short piece is based on a simple idea of a dialogue between voices, where the bass responds with an eighth-note delay. The guitar featured in this video is a 2025 Wolfgang Jellinghaus “Torres FE 13” SP/IN. This particular guitar is based on one of Torres’ earlier instruments built in 1860, numbered FE 13 by José Romanillos. The original guitar was owned by two of history’s greats—Miguel Llobet, who later sold it (likely in the early 1920s) to Hermann Hauser I, who used it as a primary model that would greatly influence his mature style.
The second piece is by another Italian composer, Ferdinando Carulli. Tomasz recorded the first movement from his Sonata in A Major, Op. 21. This movement is in allegro sonata form, which consists of an exposition introducing contrasting thematic material, a brief development section, and a recapitulation. As with most pieces written in allegro sonata form, the exposition has a repeat. Tomasz recorded this piece on a 2025 Wolfgang Jellinghaus “Torres SE 43 - Clear” SP/MP. This instrument is based on one of Torres’ more ornate guitars built in 1883, numbered SE 43.
