Xuanxuan Sun records at GSI
GSI recently welcomed Xuanxuan Sun to its showroom for a recording session featuring two videos. An accomplished classical guitarist and dedicated teacher, Sun is known for her clean technique and expressive playing. Her program paired a contemporary work with a well-known Latin American classic, showing both her versatility and musical depth.
One of the pieces she recorded is American Coffee by Simone Iannarelli. The work blends lyrical melodies with gentle rhythmic motion and requires careful phrasing and control of tone. Sun’s performance emphasizes the piece’s warmth and its flowing character. She recorded this piece on a 2013 José Ramirez.
She also recorded Alfonsina y el Mar by Ariel Ramírez. Originally written as a song, the piece carries a strong sense of nostalgia and quiet intensity. In this solo guitar version arranged by Leonardo Bravo, the melody sings above a delicate accompaniment. Sun brings a sense of intimacy to the performance, giving the phrases beautiful dynamics and expressiveness. She played this piece on a 2025 Valerio Licari.
Together, these two works offer a clear picture of Xuanxuan Sun as an artist. From the modern lyricism of Iannarelli to the depth of Alfonsina y el Mar, her playing reflects both technical command and thoughtful musical interpretation.
