Youri Soroka Builds a Guitar Based on a 1924 Santos Hernandez played by Andres Segovia.
A new guitar built by Youri Soroka is coming soon to GSI. Youri is a French-Ukrainian luthier based in France. He was featured in the popular French magazine, La Montagne, where he described his journey from starting as a computer scientist to becoming a guitar maker and the philosophy that guides his craftsmanship.
We have some sneak peek photos and videos! Youri based his newest guitar on a 1924 Santos Hernadez that was owned by Andres Segovia. It's a spruce top guitar with Indian rosewood back and sides. The tuners are made by Kris Barnett. See the photos below and check out the videos. In the first video, you can see Youri applying French polish to this very guitar, and in the second video, you can hear the sound of this guitar in the hands of Ukrainian guitarist, Maria Shevchenko. Maria is currently a guitar student in Leuven, Belgium.
