Zlatko Josip Grgić Performs "Granada" with Orchestra on an 1890 Torres

Community

Zlatko Josip Grgić, known as the "Torres Whisperer," is a celebrated Croatian classical guitarist acclaimed for his unique artistry and devotion to tradition. Born into a musical family, Zlatko began his guitar journey under the guidance of his father, a dedicated guitar teacher. His upbringing was enriched by interactions with legendary musicians like Leo Witoszynskyj and Tommy Emmanuel, whose influences profoundly shaped his craft. Zlatko’s playing embodies authenticity, emotional depth, and the timeless legacy of the Spanish classical guitar tradition.

Zlatko's artistry is distinguished by his unconventional technique of playing without long nails on his right hand. This method, combined with his use of a rare 1890 Antonio de Torres guitar, produces a sound rich in old-world elegance.

In his latest project, Zlatko Josip Grgić recorded "Granada" from Suite Espanola, Op. 47, No. 1 by Isaac Albeniz. This exceptional recording, made possible with the support of the Croatian State Archives, was captured in a setting rich with historical significance, adding to its enduring charm. In the video, Zlatko performs together with the Zagreb Studio Orchestra a special arrangement of "Granada" prepared by Hrvoje Grgić and Filip Šljivac. Check out the full video below!
