Description
This 2026 Wolfgang Jellinghaus “Flamenca Negra” is a flamenco negra with a spruce top and granadillo back and sides, made in China and available in the USA exclusively at GSI.
A Lively, Raspy Flamenco Negra
This is Wolfgang Jellinghaus’ “Flamenca Negra” model, which is a lively, raspy guitar all around. Super light in weight, it has immediate response with a percussion-like attack, giving it a very authentic flamenco flavor for any setting – accompanying dancers and singers or playing solos.
Granadillo Back and Sides
The back and sides are granadillo, a dense, beautifully figured Latin American hardwood often used in place of rosewood. On this guitar the back is book-matched so that a wide band of pale, creamy sapwood runs right down the center, framed by rich brown heartwood with tight, wavy grain – a very striking look for a flamenco negra. Like rosewood, it is hard and dense, which suits the guitar’s quick, percussive response.
French Polish at an Incredible Value
Fit and finish are excellent, and this is one of the least-expensive French polished guitars in our inventory! An incredible value for the price.
Background
A Guitar Maker's Son from Dortmund
Wolfgang Jellinghaus (1951–2024) was born in Dortmund, Germany. His father, Walter Jellinghaus, was himself a guitar maker and naturally introduced the craft to Wolfgang at a young age. In 1978, Wolfgang began managing his family's retail music shop, Musik Jellinghaus GmbH, and in 1983 he created Martinez Guitars, designing their first line of guitars.
Replicas of Torres, Lacote, Hauser and Ramírez
In 2013, he set up an independent workshop in China, building guitars under the name "Milestones of Music": a small, traditional boutique workshop that specialized in making high-quality guitars in the style of such great historical makers as Lacote, Antonio de Torres, Hauser and Ramírez, among others. He later developed a new line of instruments under his own name, and with Edmund Blöchinger he refined many of his replicas and established the La Cañada line.
