Coming Soon: Ariel Ameijenda and his newest

Our friend, Uruguayan luthier Ariel Ameijenda surprised us recently with some pictures of the newest guitar he built especially for us. Ariel is so excited about this guitar that he’s even told us that he thinks this is the most beautiful guitar he’s ever made! So you can imagine how much anticipation we are feeling in knowing that it will be here soon for us to see and play. For those of you who don’t know, Ariel Ameijenda is only the second-generation luthier in Uruguay – his father, Manuel Ameijenda, was an extremely well-respected maker who learned his craft from Juan Carlos Santurion, a pupil of Ignacio Fleta. Ariel learned his craft early in his life as a young apprentice of his father. Ariel has been working as a luthier since the 1970s, so hearing of his enthusiasm for this particular guitar definitely made us intrigued. Especially since we’ve been so happy with all the instruments he’s sent us in the past.

Ariel has provided a “sneak peek” of this guitar, with photos taken during different stages of its construction, which you can see below. Of note, this will be the first guitar he’s made for us with back and sides made of Italian walnut, which has beautiful figuring in the dramatic grain pattern. Ariel here has demonstrated his keen ability to find and match beautiful materials with which to design his guitar, with complementing rosette, head, and plantilla.
