Laura Mazon Franqui, Records Five New GSI Videos!

A few months ago, Laura Mazon Franqui visited GSI for her second recording session in our showroom. Laura is originally from Cuba, but now she lives in the United States. In the duration of her career, Laura has performed in hundreds of venues around the world, including the Mid-Manhattan Library, the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, the Guild of Boston Artists, and the Gusman Concert Hall.

Joaquín Turina's "Sonata (Para Guitarra), Op. 61" consists of three movements I. Allegro, II. Andante, and III. Allegro Vivo. Laura recorded I. Allegro in late 2021 during her first recording session at GSI. Back then, she picked a fantastic 1928 Hermann Hauser I SP/CSAR (ex Celedonio Romero) for that video. During our most recent video shoot with Laura, we managed to record the two remaining movements to complete this work. Laura chose a 1900's Manuel Ramirez "Santos" SP/MH for II. Andante, and a 1953 Miguel Rodríguez SP/CY for III. Allegro Vivo. Turina composed this sonata in 1931, so it's a great opportunity to hear this piece recorded on guitars that have this unique, old-world sound.

Next, Laura Mazon Franqui recorded a piece titled "Song For Maria" by a young British composer, Laura Snowden. In the video below, you can hear Laura performing this piece on a flamenco guitar - a 2006 Rafael Moreno Rodriguez "Negra" SP/CSAR.

Laura also recorded "Canción" by Emmy-winner composer, Carlos Rafael Rivera. Carlos is the composer of the soundtrack for the Netflix series “The Queen’s Gambit” and “Godless”. Many of you might also remember him from the 4th episode of "We Are Guitar" recorded in the GSI showroom. The guitar featured in the video below is a 2023 Pavel Gavryushov SP/IN.

In the final video from this recording session, you can hear the third movement, "Balada De La Donzela Enamorada", from Leo Brouwer's "El Decaméron Negro". Laura recorded this piece on a 1970 Hermann Hauser II CD/CSAR that was played by Celedonio Romero.
