Description

This guitar is a monster of a flamenco from the mid-20th century. It has all the qualities of a true Andalucian guitar with the sound resonating off the top, back and sides. It has a loose, dry and penetrating sound with big basses and succulent, fat trebles. The higher registers are incredibly sweet and sensuous. In the hands of a classical player this guitar also sings beautifully - it can accommodate virtually any style of music with great charm and elegance. Built by Miguel Beneyto Rodriguez (1888-1975, also known as “Miguel Sr.”) whose instruments from this period rarely appear on the market, so this is an extraordinary find. We first acquired this guitar over 20 years ago from Rafael Rodriguez Jr (the grandson of Miguel Beneyto) for whom it was originally built. Like many guitars of its age, the 1953 instrument has a few well-repaired cracks, but is in fantastic playing condition. These instruments are played by numerous concert players around the world most notably, the Romero family, who have been using Miguel Rodriguez guitars since the late 1950s. Very desirable for its quality (and quantity) of sound, superb playability and unmatched aesthetic beauty – collector and performer alike will find this to be an extremely exciting instrument to own and play.
