Flamenco Virtuoso Jerónimo Maya Records Five Original Pieces at GSI
We recently had the pleasure of welcoming flamenco guitar virtuoso Jerónimo Maya to GSI, where he recorded five of his own compositions on a selection of instruments from our collection.
A true genius of the flamenco guitar, Jerónimo Maya is a direct descendant of the legendary Ramón Montoya. He began playing at the age of five and was quickly recognized as a child prodigy by both the public and the flamenco community, earning praise from great maestros such as Sabicas and Paco de Lucía. His playing is celebrated not only for its dazzling virtuosity but also for its deep personality and originality—qualities that have made him a distinctive voice in flamenco today.
Over the course of his career, Jerónimo has accompanied some of the finest singers of contemporary flamenco, including Diego el Cigala, Chano Lobato, Esperanza Fernández, Estrella Morente, and José de la Tomasa. He has often performed with his uncle Ricardo Losada “El Yunque”, Ginesa Ortega, and Paco del Pozo, while also sharing the stage with iconic figures such as Paco de Lucía, Camarón de la Isla, and Sabicas—the latter being a close friend.
During his visit to GSI, Jerónimo recorded five videos featuring his original compositions, each performed on a different guitar. Enjoy them below:
