Player Spotlight: Alex Tsiboulski
Alex Tsiboulski is a Ukraine-born, Australia-based guitarist. He is the winner of twelve international competitions, including the 2000 Australian Guitar Competition and the 2006 Tokyo International Guitar Competition. His teachers have included Timothy Kain, Ernesto Bitetti and Adam Holzman. He was three times a finalist of the GFA International Concert Artist Competition. He is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, and was the Australian-American Fulbright Scholar in the Visual and Performing Arts.
2015 saw the release of Alex Tsiboulski’s second solo album for Naxos. Lovingly researched for over a decade, these new readings of the guitar sonatas of Manuel Ponce undoubtedly surprised and continue to astonish those familiar with the music, as well as draw a new group of players and listeners to these works.
In parallel, another release is set for this new year 2016: a profound re-imagining of how Bach is played on the guitar through new arrangements by Australian musicologist and guitarist Stephen Snook. The new disc will contain recordings of Cello Suites 1, 2 and 6, with a sequel planned in the coming years.
