Rene Baarslag was born in Heerlen, Holland in 1948 and began playing classical guitar as a teenager. It would be several years before discovering his passion for lutherie - after graduating from university he pursued several diffferent career options in fields as wide and diverse as art history, chemistry, architecture, mechanical engineering, and even opera. Finally, in 1977, he visited Granada to learn flamenco (to supplement his classical playing) and during this stay discovered guitar making. He apprenticed with Antonio Marin Montero, but also spent some time in France with Robert Bouchet. After setting up his own shop, he remains in Granada to the present day, with his wife Ana Rodriguez - also an established guitar maker. This guitar is traditionally made, showing influences not just from his Granada background, but also from the early Madrid school. Easy to play with an open, loose warm and dark sound, this is a great older spruce top that has been beautifully played for many years, perfect for the player seeking a guitar that doesn't need to be broken-in. Ideal for any concert or recording setting.
