Antonio de Torres, the "father of the modern guitar" was the first to establish most design principles which set the standard for virtually every guitar maker following him. Kenny Hill based this guitar on Torres' first-epoch period while Torres was working in Sevilla. Being smaller bodied, it has the classic Torres proportions and dimensions but features several of Kenny's innovative and modern structural details that he normally reserves for his "Signature" models. This includes a "double top" (pioneered originally by Dammann, Wagner, and others) composed of a Nomex core (an ultra light cell structure), "sandwiched" between two very thin layers of cedar (on the underside) and spruce (on the outside) which makes for an extremely light and efficient soundboard, but is domed in such a way as to maximizes stiffness at the same time - very important for both the sound quality and structural stability. Outwardly it seems just like a normal spruce soundboard. This technique is borrowed from ultra light aviation technology. It is braced using a lightweight system of lattices for a durable but flexible system. Other features include dual soundports and elevated fingerboard. So this instrument seamlessly fuses the traditional with the modern to create a very versatile and powerful concert instrument. In addition to the more compact body shape, it also has a shorter string length, which comes in at a very comfortable 640mm with 50mm fingerboard width at the nut. Other notable details include some beautiful materials including a gorgeous spruce top with some subtle bearclaw markings and cross-grain "aguas" due to the high-quality grade cut of quartersawn wood, and a rich set of birdseye maple for the back and sides with a gorgeous 3D texture. The sound is strong, with singing highs, and solid basses. Ideal for players seeking a smaller instrument, but with a full concert sound. Although a second-hand guitar it is in excellent condition with minimal playing wear in the finish.
