British luthier Simon Ambridge cites Antonio de Torres, the early 20th century Spanish makers and Hermann Hauser 1 as the main sources that inspire his craft. Weaving their design elements with his own ideas, he produces instruments which are traditional in style, lightly built and very responsive. For sound, his goal is real beauty, with evenly focused notes which are at the same time well balanced across the whole musical spectrum. This particular guitar indeed is a perfect example of such an effort - cleanly built, refined in every curve and angle - a true modern classic, based on a 1940 Hauser for both the structure and aesthetic details. Materials are well-selected and it is fitted with Scheller tuning machines. Sound is firm, natural and woody, with great clarity across all registers. For an instrument with a slightly more compact body size, the guitar has surprising volume and a beautiful, lyrical tone. The instrument is in excellent condition with just a small repair on the upper bout of the bass side of the soundboard.
