British luthier Simon Ambridge cites Antonio de Torres, the early 20th century Spanish makers and Hermann Hauser I as the main sources that inspire his craft. Weaving their design elements with his own ideas, he produces instruments which are traditional in style, lightly built and very responsive. For sound, his goal is real beauty, with evenly focused notes which are at the same time well balanced across the whole musical spectrum. This particular guitar indeed is a perfect example of such an effort, leaning a bit more towards Torres in its style - but as per his usual, cleanly built, following the refinements of his influences in every curve and angle - making it a true modern classic. Materials are well-selected including a top covered in beautiful bearclaw and the decorative details are very tasteful. Sound is smooth and velvety in texture, and for an instrument with a slightly more compact body size, the guitar has surprising volume and a beautiful, lyrical tone. It's also very comfortable to play with a comfortable neck shape and easy action. Although 25 years old the guitar is in excellent condition with only some cosemetic wear in the finish but no structural issues like any prior damage or repairs. Overall a delightful instrument from one of England's most respected luthiers.
