This guitar was made by Arcangel Fernandez, one of the best Spanish luthiers of flamenco guitars in latter half of the twentieth century. Like his master Marcelo Barbero, Arcangel's work has played an integral role in defining the archetypal flamenco guitar. This example from 1960 is one of the more lightweight examples we have seen of his work, and subsequently has a very strong, booming sound, with lightning-fast response. The basses have impressive richness and body, and the trebles have a beautiful, singing, "lyrical" quality. It is in fantastic condition with only two repairs (on either side of the fingerboard) which is remarkable for an instrument of this vintage. The tap plates were recently replaced by GV Rubio (they were "aged" to appear of the "period") as the originals had delaminated over the years and needed to be replaced. Finish on part of the top was touched up at the same time, but otherwise the guitar is in excellent, original condition. Playability is superb with low action and an elegantly shaped, easy neck. Extremely desirable in all ways - to the performer and collector alike.
