Description
The Cordoba Luthier Select Series "Santos Hernandez" is a new classical guitar with a spruce top and maple back and sides, closely modeled on a 1921 guitar by the great Madrid maker Santos Hernández.
The Cordoba Luthier Select Series
An alliance of craft and tradition, decades in the making: the Cordoba Luthier Select Series. These exquisite nylon-string guitars are hand-crafted by master luthiers in extremely limited batches.
A Tribute to a 1921 Santos Hernández
This is the "Santos Hernandez" model, inspired by and largely based on a 1921 Santos that we had several years ago, which made a lasting impression on us for its majestic sound and beauty of build. To capture as closely as possible the look and sound of the original, very old, dark and aged spruce was chosen for this model – to match the very darkened spruce on the original, and for its overtone-rich quality of sound. The guitar is also completely French-polished.
Sound: Dark, Deep and Powerful
This is an extremely impressive tribute to Santos, as it delivers a dark, deep, mysterious and rich quality of tone across all registers, with singing trebles and velvety basses. It also has surprising power, allowing players to project the sound in any sized room. The clarity of the voices within chords is exceptionally good, both close-up and at the distances needed to perform in large concert halls – indeed, this guitar can capture any listener's attention and draw them to the finest details in any performance. Overall, another fantastic and authentic tribute to one of the great masters of guitar making history.

Background
Cordoba Guitars: Founded in 1997 by Tim Miklaucic
Cordoba was founded in 1997 by Tim Miklaucic, who started out by gathering a team of master luthiers to build nylon-string guitars in the Spanish tradition. The company grew from there into a full line of classical and flamenco guitars, from student instruments to the US-built Master Series. In 2023 Cordoba Music Group, the company behind Cordoba, became part of Yamaha Guitar Group.
Kenny Hill and Edmund Blöchinger, Designers Emeritus
Two master luthiers whose own guitars are well known to GSI customers serve as Cordoba's designers emeritus: Kenny Hill, the California guitar maker behind the Hill and New World guitars, and Edmund Blöchinger of Dorfen, Germany, one of the most sought-after Torres-inspired luthiers working today.
Cordoba at GSI
GSI is a Cordoba dealer and carries a selection of the brand's nylon-string guitars, from the Luthier Series, made in China, to the Master Series, made in the USA.
