From Jaén to Granada
Although born in Huelma, in the province of Jaén, in 1950, Antonio Raya Pardo lived in Granada from childhood. In 1972 he spent time as an apprentice in the workshop of José López Bellido, one of the founding figures of the modern Granada school, and in 1973 he set up on his own.
A Prolific Granada Master
Over the next five decades Antonio became one of the most important names in Granada guitar making. With nearly 600 guitars under his belt, he was certainly one of the more experienced luthiers of his time. His flamenco guitars exemplify the Granada style – light, responsive and full of gypsy echo – and he also built fine classical guitars, including "Torres" models and "Especial" guitars made from his choicest materials. Antonio passed away in 2022.
