NationalityCanadian

Jean Rompré is a Canadian classical guitar maker in Saint-Majorique-de-Grantham, Quebec. Friederich Meets Simon Marty

Jean sees his current style of build largely as a fusion of the work of Daniel Friederich and Simon Marty. His guitars use a Marty-like "double-fan" bracing system, with struts on either side of a thin, sculpted bridge brace fanning away from the bridge, sometimes topped by light carbon-fiber reinforcements for added strength without extra weight. The elevated fingerboard and carved headstock are an aesthetic "nod" to Friederich.

Domed Backs and the Tornavoz

Jean carves domed backs, which he believes help produce additional power, and fits many of his guitars with a "tornavoz" in the soundhole. This lets him lower the body resonance to his taste in the final stages of construction – one reason his guitars combine big volume with a thick, overtone-rich sound.
