Douglass Scott is a Canadian luthier based on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, renowned for his finely crafted classical guitars that blend traditional Spanish design principles with thoughtful modern innovations. A lifelong classical guitarist with a Bachelor of Music degree, Scott began building guitars in the late 1990s and has developed an international reputation for instruments prized for their clarity, balance, responsiveness, and expressive tonal palette. His guitars are played by concert artists, teachers, students, and collectors worldwide, and are celebrated for combining exceptional playability with refined craftsmanship.
Built in 2022, this beatiful instrument showcases the Scott's refined approach to contemporary classical guitar design. Featuring a European spruce top (covered in gorgeous bearclaw) paired with beautifully figured flamed maple back and sides (with CSA rosewood central wedge), this guitar delivers remarkable clarity, projection, and tonal transparency, with a quick response and impressive dynamic range. The maple body lends a crisp, focused character to the sound while preserving warmth and color throughout the registers. Modern player-focused features include a removable cover for the soundport (fitted with magnets for easy on-and-off) on the upper-bout bass side, which enhances the performer's listening experience and sense of immediacy, and an ergonomic armrest for added comfort during extended playing sessions. The 635mm scale length offers a slightly more relaxed feel under the left hand while maintaining excellent string tension and articulation. Tuners are by Alessi and feature snakewood buttons. Elegant, responsive, and highly versatile, this is a concert-level instrument that reflects Scott's reputation for combining traditional craftsmanship with thoughtful modern innovations.
