2026 Teodoro Pérez "60th Anniversary 3/10" SP/PF

Construcción de guitarras de artesanía Teodoro Pérez.

Description

A 2026 "60th Anniversary" classical guitar by Teodoro Pérez, with a spruce top and pau ferro back and sides, made in Madrid, Spain – No. 3 of only 10 guitars marking six decades of his work, its headstock inlaid with Toledo damascene.

60 Years of Teodoro Pérez

This is #3 of the 10 guitars in this limited edition run – made to commemorate 60 (yes – SIXTY!) years of guitar making (1966–2026) by veteran Madrid luthier Teodoro Pérez, who still pursues his love of the craft in the finest instruments he is capable of building. Our January 2026 announcement has the first details of the series, and our post on his 50th Anniversary tells the story of the 10 guitars he built for his half-century in 2016.

Gold and Silver: Toledo Damascene by Raquel de la Torre Serrano

What sets this series apart is the Toledo damascene on the headstock – gold and silver inlaid in a silhouette that Teodoro designed together with Raquel de la Torre Serrano, founder of the Togashi Damasquinos workshop in Toledo and daughter and pupil of the damascene master Carlos de la Torre. Damascene is one of Toledo's traditional crafts: gold and silver threads and sheets are inlaid into carved steel, creating intricate black and gold geometric or floral patterns.

Woods and Appointments of the 60th Anniversary Series

Across the series, the soundboards are spruce or cedar, and the backs and sides African rosewood, cocobolo or pau ferro – with a single guitar in CSA rosewood. Every guitar has a Honduras cedar neck, an ebony fingerboard, Alessi tuners with porcupine and mother-of-pearl handles, and a French polish finish. For this run the Pérez workshop has drawn on its most prized, aged materials and put its most imaginative work into the inlays and design – the limit of their creative powers, after six decades of building in Teodoro's lifetime alone.

Spruce and Pau Ferro: A Focused Madrid Sound

The third guitar in the series pairs spruce with pau ferro, and its sound is every bit as bold as its looks: the spruce gives a firmer, clearer and more focused sound, with improved balance and clarity. Not a single fault can be found anywhere in this instrument – neither in the craftsmanship nor in the quality and quantity of sound it produces.

Six Decades: Ramírez, Tezanos-Pérez and the Pérez Family

It is a joy to represent a couple of these guitars, and we salute Teodoro on his extraordinary journey over sixty years: from the José Ramírez III workshop, through the Tezanos-Pérez era, to the workshop he now shares with his son Sergio, daughter Beatriz and son-in-law Marco. Congratulations to the Teodoro Pérez shop on such a profoundly beautiful instrument to celebrate this momentous occasion!

Background

Trained in the José Ramírez III Workshop

Teodoro Pérez was born in 1952 in the province of Soria, Spain, but moved to Madrid while still very young. In 1966 he began his apprenticeship in the famed José Ramírez III workshop, where he built guitars, lutes, bandurrias and mandolins. During these years, he had the great honor to meet some of the great maestros of the twentieth century, including Andrés Segovia, Narciso Yepes and many others. In 1970, after passing the appropriate tests, and with the approval of José Ramírez, he qualified as First Official, and stamped the guitars he made with his initials GPM.

Tezanos-Pérez and a Family Workshop in Madrid

In 1991, Teodoro teamed up with fellow Ramírez veteran Mariano Tezanos, and built guitars under the name "Tezanos-Pérez" until 2005. Today he builds with his family: his son, Sergio Pérez, who has been assisting him in his work since 1998, his daughter, Beatriz, and his son-in-law, Marco Tejeda. Sergio and Marco also build guitars under their own names. GSI is proud to represent these guitars exclusively in the United States.
