Description
Dominique Field is internationally recognized as France's top builder in his generation and demand for his instruments is so extreme that his enormous wait-list had to be closed in August of 2006. This instrument, built in 1992 already has features of his current style including his (now) classic headstock shape (previously he used a 3-lobed Torres/Hauser style shape until 1989), basic proportions/dimensions and white tie-block veneer. Soundwise, this guitar has the magically unique sound that Field is praised for - it has the refinement of tone along the same lines of Bouchet and Hernandez y Aguado, two of Field's influences. It has a large tonal palette and great dynamic range, giving it excellent lyrisicm and expression. Condition is excellent with only 1 small repaired crack in the back, otherwise barely any playing wear. The aged top has already started to darken giving it the look of a much more vintage, antique guitar. Of note, this guitar is 2 numbers away from Eduardo Isaac's guitar (#83) that can be heard on several of his great recordings. Overall a great and very satisfying guitar to play and listen to.
Background
Dominique Field is now the leading builder in the French school of guitar making (and arguably one of the top in the world) that has its origins in Paris in the 19th century with Pons and Pons Aîné who were the teachers/mentors of Rene-Francois Lacote - France's first superstar in guitar making. Spaniard Julian Gomez Ramirez settled in Paris and became active c. 1910, deeply influencing Robert Bouchet, who initially played on a Gomez Ramirez guitar before becoming a luthier himself. Robert Bouchet of course would have a profound influence on Daniel Friederich and Dominique Field, setting the standard for the modern French guitar in the 20th century and beyond. Field's guitars have been played by numerous top guitarists including (to name but just a few!) Sergio Assad, Vladimir Mikulka, Ivan Rijos, Eduardo Isaac, Adam Holzman, Scott Tennant, Vicente Amigo, Adam Levin, Raphael Feuillatre, Judicael Perroy, Hubert Kaeppel, Roman Viaziovskiy and both members of the Montenegrin Guitar Duo (Goran Krivokapic and Danijel Cerovic). Odair Assad Rene Izquierdo are also awaiting new Field guitars.
