Based out of Washington state, John Peter Barthell started building guitars in 1976. He's largely self taught, with only minor assists from Irving Sloane and Robert Ruck. This guitar is fairly traditional in construction with a 7-fan bracing system. The neck is bolted to the body, which creates a very stiff neck joint and improved sustain, much like a piano. The sound is direct, bold and very wide. There is one hairline crack in the top, expertly repaired, otherwise there is only some cosmetic playing wear. Tap plates have been added but this is still very much a "classical" guitar in tone and setup.
