Description

Lester Devoe, the great American flamenco guitar builder, has now retired, a sad day for flamenco players and lovers around the world. He was 'discovered' in the 1980s by Sabicas, who played Devoe guitars for the rest of his career. He was then embraced by Paco de Lucia, Vicente Amigo, El Viejin and other renowned flamenco pros, and today many consider him one of the greatest flamenco builders of the last several decades. This particular guitar plays immaculately, with the setup and intonation that Lester is famous for. It's got plenty of volume and punch, a soulful flamenco voice, and is in near perfect condition, with only some minor wear in the finish (very thin lacquer throughout). Overall this is an absolutely lively negra built with choice materials and his most classic and attractive 'roses' rosette modeled on early Jose Ramirez. It is fitted with traditional wooden pegs (that work really well) for the old-school players out there who prefer the more lightweight peghead for improved responsiveness. The guitar is also very lightly built overall which makes it fun and easy to play due to the snappy, immediate responsiveness. Devoe has a reputation for having built his best instruments after 2010, and this one from 2015 is a top example from the many we've seen over the years. Available now and impossible to get from Lester himself. A chance to own what has now become a piece of guitar history.
