Description

This is Rafael Moreno Rodriguez' flagship model, which he has named "Sueño" ("Dream"). It was inspired by an instrument built by 19th century guitar maker Joaquín Ruiz - which Moreno Rodriguez had in his possession many years ago for some restoration work. He quickly fell in love with the unique and incredible craftsmanship and style, and decided to incorporate some of the decorative elements into this "Sueno" model as a tribute to the memory of this instrument and maker. Some of the notable features include the thick, multi-band purfling on the back, which come together both at the heel and foot areas and break apart into a pattern of interlacing lines that fill a wide maple strip the entire length of the back. The sheer virtuosity required to execute this level of craftsmanship has rarely been matched in the last 100 years of guitar construction, and it is truly impressive. It is also fitted with a 19th century period-style bridge, and the headstock is shaped after the pomegranate fruit (a tribute to the city of "Granada" which is actually the Spanish word for "pomegranite"). The materials are first rate, and this represents Moreno Rodriguez at his most creative. These guitars principally are made only for collectors and concert players. Pepe and Celín Romero have owned these as well as some younger professionals like Vicente Coves of Granada, Spain. It has the characteristic sound of Moreno Rodriguez' guitars - Big volume without being boomy and a thick, dark sound across all registers. This is an exceptional concert guitar and we recommend it highly both for its concert-worthy sound, provenance and refined, unique workmanship. Although used, it is in excellent condition, having had some recent repairs done to some cracking on the sides, which is now invisible thanks to the excellent work of GV Rubio. Otherwise the guitar shows only modest signs of wear from previous use.
