We are extremely pleased to be working again with David Rouse who in our opinion is one of the best English luthiers on offer. A quick look at this instrument and it is immediately obvious that it features impeccably clean workmanship and superb materials, particularly the stunning set of CSA rosewood with its dramatic interplay of dark hartwood with the lighter, more yellow-ish sapwood. Tuning machines are by Scheller. The overall build is lightweight, therefore the sound is surprisingly huge with a rich color palette, and a great deal of warmth, even for a spruce top. The tone is textured, with ample overtones yet excellent clarity and balance - a wonderful synthesis of the Spanish and Northern European styles. Rouse likes to keep the top as lightly braced as possible for the purpose of allowing for the maximum freedom in vibration. Under the fingerboard, at the slipper, he uses two supports between the top and the back to make the neck/body junction very strong but very light. Playability is a breeze thanks to the slightly elevated fingerboard and its slender and comfortable neck profile. Suitable for any size auditorium - also a wonderful recording instrument.
