Description
This 2025 Ivan Bruna classical guitar, with a spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides, was made in Rosignano Marittimo, near Livorno, Italy – a guitar in the Hauser I tradition, in like-new condition.
A Hauser-Inspired Sound
This is our second guitar from this seasoned builder, and we couldn't be more pleased, as it shows Ivan's work at its absolute best. The construction is traditional at its core: having apprenticed with Enrico Bottelli over 20 years ago, Ivan – like his mentor – has a sound that captures many of the qualities normally used to describe the sound of Hauser I: a piano-like clarity in all registers, precise balance and a vast color palette (bright and brassy when played ponticello, milky and luminous sul tasto, and everything imaginable in between).
Round Trebles, Bodied Basses
Every note has a clearly defined and "anchored" fundamental at its core, with very controlled and transparent overtones coating each note. Ivan tells us he seeks round trebles and bodied basses, with a preferred low body resonance. His guitars also have a reputation for being extremely comfortable to play, which Ivan attributes to the relaxed "flexibility" of his neck-to-soundboard system. He also seeks to maximize dynamic range, largely through his particular treatment and doming of the soundboard.
Condition
In like-new condition. Overall an outstanding and versatile instrument for any style of music, and we are delighted to be working with this excellent builder in the USA.
Background
Ivan Bruna: A Leading Talent in Italian Guitar Making
In our opinion, Ivan Bruna is one of the great talents currently on the Italian guitar-making scene. His love of the arts, music and craftsmanship led him, at just over twenty, to dedicate himself to guitar making, and he enrolled at the prestigious Civic School of Luthiery in Milan, where he now teaches.
Enrico Bottelli's First Apprentice
After completing his studies, Ivan went on to the workshop of Enrico Bottelli in Voghera, becoming Bottelli's first apprentice (many other very talented luthiers have followed since) and honing and refining his skills there. His inspiration comes primarily from the work of Hermann Hauser I and the Spanish luthiers Torres, Esteso and García.
A Workshop in Tuscany
Ivan later set up his workshop in Rosignano Marittimo, near Livorno in Tuscany, where he builds traditional instruments with particular attention to the beauty of the details and the exceptional materials used – a quality reflected in a sound that is more and more appreciated in Italy and abroad. Today he balances his professional life between teaching and building guitars. GSI is Ivan's only dealer in the USA.
