Description

This guitar was originally displayed at the 2023 Roma Guitar Expo, and shows Ivan Bruna's guitar work at its absolute best. This is a "Limited Edition" model which features his most deluxe (and tasteful) inlay work and selection of finest materials. The construction style is traditional at its core, having apprenticed with Enrico Bottelli over 20 years ago, we feel there the sound captures many of the qualities normally used to describe the sound of Hauser I - specifically by having tone that has a piano-like clarity in all registers, precise balance and a vast color palette (bright and brassy when played ponticello, milky and luminous when played sul tasto, and everything imaginable in-between). Every note has a clearly defined and "anchored" fundamental at its core with very controlled and transparent overtones coating each note. Ivan tells us that he seeks round trebles and bodied basses, with a preferred low body resonance between F and F#. His guitars also have a reputation for being extremely comfortable to play, Ivan believe this is due to the relaxed "flexibility" of his neck to soundboard system. Ivan also seeks to maximize dynamic range, largely by his particular treatment and doming of the soundboard. Overall this is an outstanding and versatile instrument which can be used to perform any style of music, and we are delighted to be working with this excellent builder in the USA.

Background

In our opinion, luthier Ivan Bruna is one of the great talents currently on the Italian guitar making scene. His love of the arts, music and craftsmanship led him at the age of just over twenty, to decide to dedicate himself to guitar making. At this time, he enrolled at the prestigous Civic School of Luthiery (where he now teaches). Afterward completing his studies, Ivan went on to the workshop of Enrico Bottelli in Voghera, where became Bottelli's first apprentice (many other very talented luthiers have followed since), honing and refining his skills. He later set up his workshop near Livorno (in Tuscany) where he builds traditional instruments with particular attention to the beauty of the details and of the exceptional materials used. This quality is reflected in a sound, from guitar to guitar, that is becoming always more appreciated in Italy and abroad. As already stated, Ivan now balances his professional life between teaching and the construction of his guitars.
