Description

This is an excellent example from 1994, and features a spruce soundboard top, and 3-piece CSA rosewood back. Although Oldiges has retained structural elements common more to Hauser I, the aesthetics are more a tip of the hat to Torres. The body shape (plantilla) is along the lines of first-epoch Torres (especially "La Leona") and decorative elements such as the 3- piece back and rosette are more a nod to the second epoch, particularly to the 1888 instrument (SE 114) owned by Tarrega. Julian Bream chose an Oldiges some time ago having found that the weight, feel, shape of the neck and string feel near-identical to the 1940 Hauser that he has played for so many years as well as having a very good Hauser-style sound quality and balance.

The sound interestingly straddles the best of both the Hauser and Torres styles. It has well-defined notes with great balance and separation, and at the same time is loose, warm and dark. Playability is easy and the guitar is well-suited to extended playing sessions. It also has a 20th fret under the high E and B strings. Condition is excellent with no noteworthy damage or wear. The instrument is also fitted with Rodgers tuners.
