Following His Father into Lutherie

Giovanni Tacchi, son of the well-known master luthier Andrea Tacchi, has in recent years been taking up the craft of lutherie himself. He grew up in his father's Florence workshop, and today he selects the woods for his own guitars from his father's private stock – thanks to the generosity of his father.
Inspired by Daniel Friederich
Several years ago we were able to see Giovanni's first instrument, built entirely by himself, which was more or less a bench copy of a fantastic Daniel Friederich guitar that he had borrowed and studied extensively. A key influence on his work also came from time spent in Paris, where he closely examined a 2008 Friederich. Since then he has experimented with the design, adding elements of his own, in pursuit of clarity, balance and a focused sound.
The Giovanni Tacchi Sound
Structurally, Giovanni's guitars are quite similar to Friederich's, and sound-wise as well – they have a deep, resonant and thick quality of tone across all registers, and an almost "reverb-like" quality produced by the box, giving them a huge, cathedral-like presence.
