Tezanos-Pérez guitars were built in Madrid from 1991 to 2005 by Mariano Tezanos and Teodoro Pérez, two veterans of the José Ramírez III workshop, in their own shop at Calle Vicente Camarón 14. Two Veterans of the José Ramírez III Workshop

Mariano Tezanos Castro was born in Madrid in 1949, into a family of guitar makers – his father, the first Mariano Tezanos, was a respected maker of the Madrid school in the 1950s. After finishing his studies in 1963 Mariano went to work with José Ramírez III as an apprentice, and in 1984 he began building his own instruments inside the Ramírez shop, signed "MTC No. 10".

Teodoro Pérez was born in 1952 in the province of Soria and moved to Madrid while still very young. In 1966 he began his apprenticeship in the Ramírez workshop, where he built guitars, lutes, bandurrias and mandolins and met great maestros such as Andrés Segovia and Narciso Yepes. In 1970 he qualified as First Official and stamped the guitars he made with his initials, GPM.

Tezanos-Pérez Guitars, 1991–2005

In 1991 the two Ramírez veterans teamed up and built guitars together under the name "Tezanos-Pérez", in a workshop of their own in Madrid; their labels give the address Calle Vicente Camarón 14. Their guitars have the big Madrid-style sound of their Ramírez years – very well balanced, with clear, singing trebles and rich, robust basses with great sustain – and they were often made with beautiful CSA rosewood. Some, like the "Concierto", have the sides lined with cypress inside for added power and warmth.

Separate Workshops after 2005

In April 2005 Mariano and Teodoro parted ways amicably and each set up his own shop. Mariano built his "Maestro" under his own name at Calle Vicente Camarón 19, working with his nephew Sergio Tezanos (see Mariano & Sergio Tezanos). Teodoro went on to build with his family – his son Sergio Pérez, his daughter Beatriz and his son-in-law Marco Tejeda (see Teodoro Pérez).
