Description

This guitar is a monster of a flamenco from Miguel Rodriguez Jr., arguably one of the finest luthiers of the twentieth century. It has all the qualities of traditional gypsy flamenco guitars, including a big sound that resonates off the top, back and sides. It has a loose, loud and penetrating sound with big basses and crystal clear trebles. Although a blanca, it is made with cedar for the soundboard, a combination of woods found in many of the finest Rodriguez instruments - interestingly, 1968 is the earliest year we've seen for a cedar blanca from this workshop - we had another, ex Manolo Franco several years ago that was also from 1968 with this wood combination. Up until 2014, this instrument remained in the possession of the Rodriguez family when it was sold by José Miguel Rodríguez Barona (great-grandson of Miguel Rodríguez Beneyto, a.k.a. "Miguel Jr." - the builder of this guitar) in order to remodel the family guitar workshop, which is still located today at 15 Alfaros Street in Cordoba, Spain. This instrument was built with the best woods available in 1968, as a birthday present for Miguel Jr.'s grandson, José Rodríguez Álamo (who would become the 4th and last luthier in this guitar making family) when he turned 18. It is in excellent, original condition and only has one small, almost invisible repair on the soundboard that was done during the original construction of the guitar. Documentation (see photo gallery below) attests to this provenance (however note that the soundboard wood was accidentally mis-identified as spruce!). It is a superb example of a great Andalucian flamenco by one of history's greatest builders.
