Description
David Rubio is well known for his work with Julian Bream in the 1960s. This instrument was built during this very period while he was still in New York (Bream played on a Rubio made in 1965), before he returned to his native England. As is typical with most great Rubios it is very even and balanced in all registers. The tone is bold and robust with the beauty and lyricism for which he is best known. This instrument has a very strong attack - a lot of punch at the birth of every note, a bit like the responsiveness found in traditional flamencos yet still very much a "classical" in quality of sound. There are 3 hairline cracks in top, all expertly repaired by Yuris Zeltins. The guitar was also refretted so playability and setup are a breeze. We consider this instrument both historic and highly collectible.
