Built in the famous old workshop at Cuchilleros in the center of Madrid (before relocating to the Loto location), this is a rare 10-string guitar which owned by the great Narciso Yepes, arguably the most famous 10-string player of all time. We are told by the previous owner that he obtained this guitar about 20 years ago from Miss Ana Carpintero, a teacher in classical guitar in the Saragoza and Madrid Conservatory. She was a very good friend of both Paulino Bernabe and Narciso Yepes. She got this guitar directly from Paulino after Yepes passed away in 1997 and the widow wanted to part with some guitars of her husband.
Even with the additional strings, this is a classic-sounding and playing Bernabe concert guitar. As is typical from this period, it features striking materials, particularly the gorgeous CSA rosewood back with lighter sapwood in the center contrasting with the darker heartwood at the exterior. Sound is big, hearty and full, yet very balanced and clear at the same time. The guitar plays and sounds fantastic, and has a huge, bold sound that earned Bernabe a reputation for making guitars with great power. Condition is excellent with no cracks or repairs, only some mild playing wear in the finish. 10-strings like this from this maker are exceptionally rare, so it is a true thrill for us to offer this fine instrument for sale, both for its overall quality of sound, excellent condition and great provenance.
