Description
This 1997 Tezanos-Pérez "Negra" is a flamenco negra with a spruce top and CSA rosewood back and sides, made in Madrid and in virtually mint condition.
A Madrid Flamenco Negra
Considering the quality of sound, materials, playability and workmanship, this guitar is extremely hard to beat. The gorgeous CSA rosewood back and sides, immaculate workmanship and big, Madrid-style sound make it a real standout.
Sound: A Great Crossover Guitar
The sound is very well balanced, with clear, singing trebles and excellent rich, robust basses with great sustain. Although this is a flamenco negra, it is quite versatile in sound and playability and could also be used for classical playing – it's a great crossover instrument that does a great job in virtually any style of music.
Condition
Condition is excellent, with no damage and no repairs. There is almost no playing wear either – it's virtually mint.
Background
Mariano Tezanos and Teodoro Pérez
Tezanos-Pérez guitars were built in Madrid from 1991 to 2005 by Mariano Tezanos and Teodoro Pérez, two veterans of the celebrated José Ramírez III workshop. Mariano Tezanos Castro, born in Madrid in 1949, joined Ramírez as an apprentice after finishing his studies in 1963, and from 1984 he built his own instruments inside the Ramírez shop, signed "MTC No. 10". Teodoro Pérez, born in 1952 in the province of Soria, began his Ramírez apprenticeship in 1966 and qualified as First Official in 1970, stamping his guitars with his initials, GPM.

In 1991 the two teamed up in a Madrid workshop of their own – their labels give the address Calle Vicente Camarón 14 – building classical and flamenco guitars – including the "Maestro" and "Concierto" models – with stunning materials and the big Madrid sound both had learned at Ramírez. In April 2005 they parted ways amicably and each set up his own shop: Mariano with his nephew Sergio Tezanos, and Teodoro with his family.
