Description
This 2001 Paco Santiago Marín is a spruce and CSA rosewood concert classical guitar from Granada, Spain, built by one of the senior masters of the Granada school and in excellent condition.
Paco Santiago Marín and the Granada Sound
This guitar, made in 2001 by the great Granada-based builder Paco Santiago Marín (nephew of Antonio Marín Montero), is a fantastic classical. Perhaps among the most powerful of the Granada instruments, his guitars also have a very elegant, lyrical voice, and this one has a very rich and thick quality of tone across all registers – very impressive, especially since it's a spruce top.
A Concert Player's Dream
This particular guitar is outstanding by every measure – a concert player's dream with a huge sound, immediate attack, consistent sustain up and down the register, and a huge color palette. Condition is excellent with absolutely no damage or repairs of any kind – only cosmetic wear in the finish from over two decades of regular use. Many well-known players including Eliot Fisk, Leo Brouwer, Ricardo Gallén and Marco Tamayo (among others) have played and recorded on instruments by this builder. This is a great instrument by one of the most respected Spanish builders alive today.
Background
Paco Santiago Marín: Classical Guitar Maker in Granada
Paco Santiago Marín was born in Granada in 1946 and joined the workshop of his uncle, Antonio Marín Montero, in 1963 – the shop his uncle then shared with Manuel López Bellido, where a whole generation of Granada makers trained. Ten years later, in 1973, he opened his own workshop in the city, and over the following decades he became one of the leading names of the Granada school, known for guitars of great power combined with an elegant, lyrical voice.
Anniversary Models and the Next Generation
Along the way Paco developed several top models named after milestones in his career – the "30th Aniversario", "40th Aniversario" and "50th Aniversario" – which he has continued to offer ever since. His guitars have been played and recorded by artists such as Eliot Fisk, Leo Brouwer, Ricardo Gallén and Marco Tamayo, and he was one of the makers featured in Orfeo Magazine's issue on the Granada school. His son Luis has worked alongside him for many years.
