This is a beautifully made and traditionally inspired instrument by Daryl Perry. Design elements betray his admiration for the early Spanish school - the rosette in particular has "wave" pattern in the mosaic seen in Manuel Ramirez and especially by one of his workers, Santos Hernandez who favored variations of this design in his later work. The three-lobed head follows proportions close to Torres. Perry's craftsmanship is also very clean and perfectly executed, making this a very charming guitar to behold. Sound is lush, warm and loose - akin to a great Torres that has been well-played and aged. Even when new, Perry's guitars are known to have a an older, played-in, "antique" quality to the sound, and with over a decade and a half of regular use, this guitar has plenty of old-world charm. There is one (nearly invisible) crack in the back, well repaired but otherwise the guitar is in great shape with only some normal playing wear in the finish. Impressive volume and great balance round this instrument off as a very desirable example of this excellent maker's work.
