Description

Daryl built this incredibly accurate and beautiful copy of a satinwood Simplicio in 2007. Great attention was paid to all details including the carved head veneer and intricate detailing in the rosette and purflings. The appearance is matche by the sound, which is lush, warm and loose. Materials are beautiful, with a dark, aged spruce top, and an incredible set of figured satinwood for the back and sides. Although used, it is in excellent condition with only some modest wear in the finish. As usual, Perry's craftsmanship is clean and perfectly executed, making this an elegant tribute to one of history's most iconic builders.

Background

Canadian Daryl Perry has been a full-time luthier since 1982. Early in his career, he was introduced to the central ideas of the Torres-Hauser school by the famous luthier Jose Romanillos. He has been working with these ideas ever since, refining his understanding of them and developing the craftsmanship that makes them "work". Perry has received a number of awards for his work, allowing him time to do historical and practical research in Europe and North America. As well as the classical guitar, he has been interested in historical "period" instruments and in the past has built Renaissance and Baroque lutes. In 1994, two of his guitars were displayed at Canada's national museum, the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Hull, Quebec. Over the past two decades, a number of prominent guitarists have performed on Perry guitars including: Fábio Zanon (Brazil), Marcin Dylla (Poland), Johann Fostier (Belgium), Jerome Ducharme (Canada), Paolo Pegoraro (Italy). The late Roland Dyens recorded two CDs on a Perry guitar ("Sor and Giuliani" from 2006 and "Naguele Tempo" from 2008).
