Felipe has recently released a couple of fantastic "tribute" models - to famous guitars played by Moraito Chico and Pepe Habichuela, both blancas. And so in looking for an iconic "negra" to pay tribute to, he looked to the 1970's as the great decade of his father and uncle's output and found several to base this model on, most notably the iconic negra used by Paco de Lucia for the majority of his career.
This is a true flamenco guitar, built with a spruce top, African rosewood back and sides, and finished in a lighter more "orange" lacquer that was so in vogue at this time. As usual it also features his best ebony for the fret board and a Honduran cedar neck. It has an immediate, punchy attack with bitey trebles and growly basses, giving it a lot of "rasp" in all registers. In addition to the super fast responsiveness it is also very comfortable to play, especially for a longscale. It has a ringing sound but is still nicely percussive at the same time. Felipe has done an amazing job at capturing the sound of this vintage and iconic era. Although second-hand, the guitar is mint/like-new. Another stunning instrument from this famous shop.
