Built by Spanish luthier Darío García, this is the actual classical guitar that won Third Prize at the seventh Antonio Marin Montero Guitar Making Competition held in Granada, Spain in July/August, 2024 and of course we are extremely thrilled to have it here. For this classical model, Darío found his inspiration in the work of Antonio de Torres, especially in the aesthetic choices in the detailing. The rosette features a checkerboard rhombus shape for the mosaic, with alternating diamond shapes of mother-of-pearl - a pattern also repeated in the tie-block of the bridge. Flanking the central area of the rosette on both inside and outside is purfling with a colorful herringbone pattern (yellow/brown/black/green) which is also used in the purfling surrounding the top, and a modified (half-herringbone) pattern on the back. Overall this lovely design complements the Canadian cedar top and beautifully figured African rosewood back and sides to make a classic and stunning looking guitar. Internally, Darío has used a traditional seven-fan strutting with a small cross reinforcement under the bridge. Soundwise - this guitar is about as cedar-sounding as can be, Darío really nuanced this soundboard to bring out the natural character of the wood, which is very warm, overtone-rich, dark and mysterious. Playability-wise, the notes really bounce out with great ease, there's a "plumpness" in every note from the trebles to the basses. It's really a very satisfying guitar to play especially for someone looking for the full richness that a cedar top can produce. Very impressive instrument overall - it's beautifully made and sound/playablilty are superb.
