Conde Flamenco Guitars: The Sound of Paco de Lucía
Conde Hermanos guitars have been the industry standard for Spanish flamenco guitars for many decades now. Conde has been the guitar of choice for a vast number of great players over many generations, from Niño Ricardo and Melchor de Marchena to Paco de Lucía (who recorded and concertized on Conde for nearly his entire career), Moraíto, Gerardo Núñez, Cañizares, Rafael Riqueni, and the present generation's Diego del Morao and many others. Click here to see a small sampling of such performances. They are famously known for a dry, "woody" and very firm tone, capable of retaining clarity and punch even when driven to the extreme limits of speed – whether in picado, tremolo or rasgueado techniques – these guitars hold up and deliver a reliable and consistent quality of tone.
The "FC 28 Especial" Flamenco Negra
This instrument is the "Especial" version of Felipe Conde's concert-level negra. It uses his most select and valuable materials for premium quality of build and aesthetic – this is absolutely the most high-level, top-quality version of the "FC 28" that can possibly be made. It is also finished with his "en color" lacquer, which has a darker, orange-ish hue. It is beautiful not only to the eye, but to the ear as well. It is durable for the heavy hand, fast and fun to play.
Although previously owned, the guitar is in mint/brand-new condition with no signs of prior use. A great instrument in perfect condition from the maker of Paco de Lucía's guitar!
Background
Third Generation of the Esteso and Conde Line
Felipe Conde comes from one of the most celebrated families in the history of the Spanish guitar. His father, Mariano Conde, and his uncle, Faustino Conde, learned their craft from their uncle Domingo Esteso at Gravina 7 in Madrid, and carried on his workshop after his death in 1937 as Viuda y Sobrinos de Esteso and later Conde Hermanos. Felipe entered the Gravina workshop in 1971 at just 14 years old, learning from his father and uncle, and in 1989 he and his brother took over the family shop at Felipe V #2.
The Media Luna and a Legendary Roster of Players
The Conde "Media Luna" (half-moon) headstock has been the symbol of the family's top guitars since 1960, and Conde guitars have been played by Paco de Lucía, Sabicas, Niño Ricardo, Tomatito, Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin and many more. Since 2010, Felipe has worked in his own workshop at 4 Arrieta St. in Madrid, together with his children, María and Felipe Jr.
