Background
The title of this album is derived from a work by Almeida Prado, one of most important Brazilian classical composers of the second half of the twentieth century. Written for piano when Prado was only eighteen years old, the piece is based on Song of Xangô, a short musical theme transcribed by Brazilian novelist Mário de Andrade (1893-1945) in his Essay on Brazilian Music (1928). In the Yoruba tradition, Xangô is the spirit (orisha) of justice, thunder, lightning, and fire.
