Description

This is a very interesting Velazquez that's come through in recent years - it features African blackwood for the back and sides which is a very and dense hard wood, much more reflective and brilliant than the more commonly used rosewoods. This quality of sound enhances the Velazquez aesthetic - clean, pure tone with razor-sharp separation between all voices. The fundamental of every note is crystal clear yet the resonance coming out of the box adds a nice rich fullness to the body of each note. Playability is very easy thanks to the sleek shape and contour of the neck. Condition is excellent - all original with no cracks or repairs, and barely any playing wear at all. Back and sides are lacquer for added durability while the top is done in the Velazquez oil varnish which, with time, develops a slight yellowing which gives the top a beautiful, honeyed appearance. We consider Manuel Velazquez to be one of the most important American makers to date and his best instruments are, in our opinion, equal to the best of the European makers.
