Description

This is a great, full-size concert instrument built during Manuel Velazquez' "large body" period which features a more rounded plantilla and slightly deeper box. The instruments of this period have a very big sound, with additional power compared to the more Hauser-esque style of other periods. Of course the trademark Velazquez sound is still present - great clarity and separation between voices, perfect balance and a natural, beautiful, "woody" quality to the sound. This guitar has some interesting and rare features - firstly the top is cedar which is a rare treat from this builder. Secondly, it is missing the signature which normally appears on the underside of the top, above the sound hole. Instead, there is a little red smiley face! Condition is excellent – no cracks or repairs, with the exception of having been fitted with new frets by Yuris Zeltins for exceptionally easy playability. We consider Manuel Velazquez to be one of the most important American makers to date and his best instruments are, in our opinion, equal to the best of the European makers.
