Description

This guitar was made by Domingo Esteso, who along with fellow worker Santos Hernandez (from the Manuel Ramirez shop), was one of the greatest makers of the twentieth century. As can be seen on the label, this guitar was originally built for the Buenos Aires based guitar dealer "Romero y Fernandez" who were the South American importers of the finest Spanish-made instruments of their day. This guitar may have been built for a wealthier patron, as it features a unique and intricate rosette with mother-of-pearl inlay, the kind of detail that was reserved for his better instruments. Even by modern standards today, the volume of this instrument is huge, and the warm, rich, played-in sound is something that can only be found in an instrument of this vintage. The sound is absolutely magical from the bottom-end to the highest registers. It is plump, lyrical, very expressive and responsive to every subtly of the players touch. The guitar does have some old, well-repaired cracks, but is in otherwise perfect playing condition and is structurally sound. A very fine example from one of the greatest luthiers of the early 20th century.
