This is an excellent flamenco negra from Dutch guitar maker Alex van der Horst (aka "Alejandro") while he was based in Malaga, Southern Spain. While not very well known here in the US, Alejandro was one of the most promising European luthiers of this era, until he unfortunately stopped building due to illness. Sadly, Alejandro passed away in September of 2009. Nora Buschman plays a classical Alejandro, while Pedro Soler uses a 1983 flamenco negra, very similar to this one, on his CD "Sombras".
The sound is rich, bright and strong, and modulates easily between a sweet and lyrical tone, and an aggressive, percussive punch. Playability is fast and comfortable, as would be expected for a great flamenco. There are two excellently repaired small cracks (one in the soundboard, the other in the back) but otherwise the guitar is in great condition and appears to have been played respectfully, as it shows very little signs of wear for its age. Overall, a great luthier-made concert negra for an affordable price. Highly recommended.
