American luthier Tom Blackshear has been playing and building Spanish-style guitars since the 1950s. This recent "Reyes" model has been very well received with the flamenco community. We understand he only intended to build a limited number of these instruments and is currently finished with this short run. This example is made from "Port Orford" cedar, a very light-colored variety that is visually very similar to spruce. The plans of the original Reyes that he copied have been published and have been used by other makers in their copies of Reyes as well, including Kenny Hill. It has plenty of power and rattle to satisfy the needs of the professional flamenco guitarist. Reyes is also known for having a sweet, lyrical tone, and this has not been missed in this Blackshear instrument. A fantastic value for an excellent concert guitar.
