This is an excellent and very impressive guitar all around - his 100th to date! As with all of Jake's guitars, workmanship is clean, simple and refined. The sound itself is textured, with ample overtones yet excellent clarity and balance - a wonderful synthesis of the Spanish and Northern European styles. The body of the guitar is very light in weight making it respond like an early 20th century Spanish guitar, but it has a slightly "weightier" neck and stiff neck joint which gives it noticeably increased sustain, balanced across all registers. Playability is a breeze with a very easy and comfortably shaped neck profile. Suitable for any size auditorium - also a wonderful recording instrument.
This instrument has a lovely a spruce top and maple back and sides, with walnut bridge, bindings and head veneer (no rosewood at all on this guitar). Some lovely inlay work in the headstock and walnut back strip give the guitar a refined and charming appearance. It also features a new structural design, which we’ll let Jake describe:
"The guitar has a new design for the back, using a raised central strut housed into four highly tapered transverse bars. It’s lightweight and rigid longitudinally, giving extra structural stability to the guitar as a whole. The back now moves more uniformly and the air resonance has dropped down a tone. Subsequently the guitar has an enhanced bass response but retains definition, and the trebles are nice and open. Combined with a slightly stiffer soundboard than previous guitars, (achieved by heightening the transverse bars in the soundboards lower bout)." Overall a beautiful looking and sounding guitar by any measure.
