This is quite an instrument. Even at first glance, it is stunning, due to the unusual (but beautiful) materials used - in fact this instrument was built with wood taken from a piano dating from the 1950s. The soundboard of the piano was made with nice, tight straight-grain cedar rather than spruce, and was perfectly quartered, so Jake used this material for this guitar's soundboard. The piano's lid was made from a piece of tulip wood that Jake used for the back and sides. The green-ish hue of this material beautifully complements the warmth of the cedar. The walnut head veneer and bridge were ebonized, which gives the guitar a piano-like aesthetic. The fingerboard is made of Honduras rosewood. The design of the guitar incorporates Jake's latest refinements - full depth linings at the bottom instead of an end block, a laminated fingerboard, carbon neck reinforcement and a raised back bar in order to add extra stiffness and rigidity while keeping the weight down to a minimum (2.54 lbs). The body resonance is quite deep - between F and F#, giving the guitar a dark presence in all registers and lovely bottom end. Playability is a breeze with a very easy and comfortably shaped neck profile. Suitable for any size auditorium - also a wonderful recording instrument.
