2024 Teodoro Perez "1884 Torres - La Emperatriz" SP/AR

This special-edition model is truly a work of art - an elegant interpretation of the Antonio de Torres "La Emperatriz" (SE 72), made in 1884. It is a very comfortable guitar to play, with a smooth neck and easy action. The sound is a perfect blend between the sweet, singing voice typical of Torres-style guitars and the bold, rich sound of Teodoro Perez guitars. Visually this guitar is stunning, with Torres-designed decorative purfling, bridge and rosette, and gorgeous materials including a beautiful and colorful set of African rosewood for the back and sides. This masterpiece is an amazing instrument for both the collector and player alike.

Teodoro Perez was born in the province of Soria, in Spain in 1952 but moved to Madrid while still very young. In 1966 he began apprenticing in the famed Jose Ramirez III workshop, where he built guitars, lutes, bandurias and mandolins. During these years, he had the great honor to meet some of the great maestros of the twentieth century, including Andres Segovia, Narciso Yepes and several others. In 1970, after passing the appropriate tests, and with the approval of Jose Ramirez, he qualified as First Official, and stamped the guitars he made with his initials GPM. In 1991, Teodoro Perez teamed up with another fellow Ramirez veteran, Mariano Tezanos, and built guitars for many years under the name "Tezanos-Perez". Teodoro has recently entered the next phase of his career, building with his son, Sergio, who has been assisting him in his work since 1998.
