Description

This new, modestly-priced requinto model from GV Rubio is 555mm scale and is traditionally tuned to "A" (just like using a capo on a standard-scale guitar at the 5th fret). Mexican groups like "Trio Los Panchos", "Los Dandys", and "Los Tres Ases" are typically credited for popularizing the requinto in the 20th century. The instrument uses normal tension classical guitar strings and is played the same as a standard guitar. Many session recording artists also use requintos on professional recordings when they want to capture a bright clean melody. Because of its much smaller scale it is an attractive instrument for guitarists that wish to have easier reach or a different sound from the typical classical guitar.

It is made with aged German spruce for the soundboard and a beautiful set of walnut for the back and sides. It also has a Spanish cedar neck with a hidden fixed reinforcement and African ebony fingerboard. A hand-thinned nitrocellulose "matte" lacquer finish gives it amazing sustain and volume. It features traditional aesthetics including abalone shell inlay in the rosette.
